Where can I find official drug price data by country?
UNODC’s statistical annex is the upstream source. NarcoScope makes a bounded subset easier to inspect while keeping the workbook link, observation year, unit and purity field visible.
What the price record measures
GrainCountry + substance + year, aggregated to one annual retail observation.
UnitNominal US dollars per gram; not inflation-adjusted and not a live quote.
PurityReported retail purity is retained where UNODC supplies it; missing remains missing.
The converter uses the reported typical retail value when present. If it is absent and both minimum and maximum exist, it uses their midpoint. Multiple observations for the same country, substance and year are averaged. Rows without either basis are excluded rather than guessed.
Questions the data can—and cannot—answer
Can prices be compared across countries?
Yes, descriptively, after checking that the observations refer to the same substance, product form, retail level, unit and a reasonably comparable year. Nominal dollars do not represent equal local purchasing power, and purity differences can change what one gram represents.
Does a high reported price prove scarcity?
No. One price series cannot distinguish scarcity from enforcement, purity, reporting practice, demand, currency effects or a different product composition. Use it as a reported market observation, not a causal diagnosis.
Safety and scope: NarcoScope publishes aggregate country-year statistics for awareness, research and reporting. It does not provide point-of-sale, real-time, sub-street or navigable market information and is not a guide to obtaining any substance.
Use the record responsibly
- Cite the substance, country, observation year, retail level and unit—not just the number.
- State whether purity is reported or missing.
- Do not call an old annual observation a current local price.
- For trends, compare like-for-like records and show breaks in coverage.
